Geo Says:1st Sep 2008 11:21:21 AM Sri Chinmoy (a renowned meditation guru) says: "The mind is not necessary for meditation, because thinking and meditating are absolutely different things. When we meditate, we do not think at all. The aim of meditation is to free ourselves from all thought." Yes Ashish, all my replies are non-meditative. They have come after much thought. East Asian understanding of the English word 'meditation' and the Central Asian understanding of the same word is totally different. So Jesus was not meditative in the way you understand it. Jesus' meditation was not active or concentration based or even passive meditation.... It was a "fully" thought involved meditation.... the mind was very actively involved in it.... Jesus is Christ. The world doesnt need concepts and philosophies Ashish, the world needs a person, the world needs a savior... |

alok Says:2nd Sep 2008 06:21:11 AM thanks geo... vl definately hunt for the book now... ![]() well by the way, i had a long time question in my mind... from the life of jesus christ, we have not known the years of jesus' youth... may be say from 20-30 or 13-30 years of age... i am not pretty sure about the age slot... from different ppl i have heard different stories... but by now you too are pretty much sure that i dont listen to things unless they are "authentic" ... lol... so i thot of asking you only!!! what was the thing that this absence hints at??? of the many things, 1 thing that i had heard is that he had come to india... and there he did meditation, and realised to truth... actually in a way i too have felt hearing jesus' teachings that he has been tremendously meditative... love can blossom beyond limits through meditation and not thought... i have personally seen in myself that love needs no mind... and the moment mind is involved, it is "liking" and not love... love has no reason basically... and reason is a mind orientation... shree chinmoy seems to me the person who founded the chinmaya mission... is he the same person?? and well it is absolutely true... meditation can not happen in presence of mind... it is the absence of thoughts... the silence of the mind... |

Geo Says:2nd Sep 2008 07:53:42 AM JESUS IN INDIA Its not even a hypothesis that Jesus came to India. Just a presumption, having roots in the fact that the Kashmiris have Jewish traits and ancestery! And the fact that Kashmiris maybe one of the lost tribes of Israel could very well be true. For time being if we do assume that he did come to India, then I think most of the theoretical training that Jesus had got tossed over the roof cos Jesus only supported and quoted the Jewish scriptures during his life and also never supported the Pantheistic (All is God) belief of India but rather spoke from a monotheistic setting. The claim made to Kashmir is only because of the miraculous feats that he did. Indians ascribe it to Yogic and Tantrik tehcniques which coupled with the circumstantial presence of the Jewish descendants made it almost conclusive!! MIRACLES There are legends and stories of various miracles across civilisations and regions worldwide. Have they all got training in India? JESUS' LIFE The Bible gives no life story of Jesus. It just states one account of his life between 1-30, one when he was around 12. So does it mean, he was out of Israel even between 1-12? There are more accounts of his life when he was just a baby, but that was more a account of incidents that happened suddenly around his birth and not specifically about him. There is no account of how he looked, how he dressed, his hobbies and interests, his professions, nothing. Because the principle source of information is the Bible and the focus was on his teachings and deeds. But if one knows Jewish culture, no one will ask more questions. Why is there no account of Jesus face or looks or dresses or hobbies because, there is none about any of the Jewish people. Not of Abraham, not of Moses, not of David nor of Solomon. Jews never made images or portraits of humans. It was a socio-religious stipulation they had with them. Children were trained by their parents in the parent's trade and their religion. So that's why Jesus is recognised as the Carpenter's son. In one place, they mention that, Jesus stood up in the synagogue and read the scriptures as was his custom. Which means he used to do that often, before the recorded incident. Moreover, Jesus was emerging as a prophet and teacher and therefore, the age for that acceptable to Jews was 30. And so we don't hear about him doing anything before 30, respecting social norms at that. But he surely was preparing for it for many years in and around that region. MIND About the mind. Even to meditate, you need the mind to decide to meditate. So let's not think and talk about mind and thoughts as useless. Its the same mind that makes you say praises of meditation. Mind and thoughts are ethically and morally neutral. But the subject of the thought definitely can be classified as any. We can do nothing without the mind being involved. Its mind that operates our will. So even in its silence, mind is functioning. About love, we need not sit and extract pure love as unmaligned by liking. We humans want to understand concepts and theories in the purity of their state. So when we talk about Love, we want it pure. But Life is not like that. Love definitely has an aspect called liking involved in it. But yes, if you are talking about lust, yes, lust maligns love because lust maligns the intention of love. Lust is selfish and only wants to take, unlike love, which only gives. Its a refreshing and complete experience to love and to do and feel other things too with the body, the heart, the soul and "also" the mind. Why should the mind be kept out??!!! |

Robins Says:10th Sep 2008 10:43:24 AM Is truth relative ? NO truth is not relative. How can I say something that is relative and define itself as Truth ? Truth is absolute. Truth do not change in a given situations or in different circumstance . Human may change his VIEW and BELIEFS to his comfort level but the doesn’t mean that all views and beliefs of human are correct. Jesus said I AM THE TRUTH. God is the source of truth. God is Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient. In bible its written “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever” |

Wilson Says:21st Feb 2009 08:11:18 AM Hi all, I was just wondering if the previous author does believe that his statements are "true?" Obviously, if truth is relative then I can make of it what I want. Just though would leave my thought. Anyway, I do like the discussion that is going on. Btw, hello Geo bhaiya! Really like the website! God bless you all. |

Robin Says:14th Jul 2010 05:56:30 AM Hi everyone, I was just reading through and thought this topic interesting. If you guys don't mind, I'd like to share some thoughts I've learned on the matter. Going back, we have to answer the thought two questions at the start: 1) "Can truth be different for different individuals?" or rephrasing, "Can truth be relative?" and 2) "Is truth exclusive?" This is a deep matter and does require length to discuss in detail. Sorry if this becomes a long entry because I need to fully explain this so it is clear where I am coming from. With regards to the first question, I believe that truth is absolute, not relative. There are some things we have to establish first. One is that generic or vague questions cannot have absolute answers. Questions, if asked specifically enough and in the right context will reveal their absolute truths. Second is that absolute truth must have an absolute standard on which we will base our answers. Third, is that the absolute standard must use circular logic and according to its own standard state that it is the absolute standard. If it didn't then it would immediately disqualify itself as the absolute standard because something/somebody else must have set it there. It must be self-authorizing. I am a Christian. I believe in the Bible as absolutely true. The reason for this is that I have faith in it. Yup, simple as that. The Bible says so, I believe it, that settles it. This might be surprising, but even in a deeply logical discussion, faith plays a major role. I believe it does in every aspect of our lives and we just don't notice it. Case in point, logic is on certain laws like the law of non-contradiction. Assuming we speak English here's another example. We are now talking in length about truth and other ideas, but imagine that if out of skepticism we did not believe our teacher or parents when they said that this symbol --> "A" is the letter a. We wouldn't learn the rest of the alphabet, how to spell apple, much less to communicate and understand using sentences. We need to simply believe that A is A that's it. This is how the Bible needs to be approached, though faith. The Bible is self-authorizing. "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul... " "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." "Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth." The Bible also gives examples of absolute standards: "As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one." "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." The word "sin" here comes from the Greek word "hamartia" meaning to miss the mark. It doesn't matter if the arrow missed the target by a millimeter or a mile. The question is: "Did we hit the target?" Sin is tackled in absolute terms that a sin is a sin, no matter how big or small. That's an absolute truth. Truth is absolute and the Bible is God's established standard for us humans to use. Through faith I sincerely believe that the Bible is the absolute standard by which man should live and it expresses the absolute truth which is God. With regards to the second question, my stand is that truth is exclusive. I will have to refer to my standard of truth, the Bible. There are many claims on how to get to heaven. The Bible says that it is only through faith in Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection, and if we truly believe this then a sincere repentance from sin is required. Using the Bible as the standard, any claim deviating from faith and repentance must be false. One cannot truly, wholeheartedly believe his/her faith and say that other belief systems are correct. If one says so, then either he/she doesn't understand his/her own faith or the other belief systems. |
